Shilajit Science
A staple of Ayurvedic medicine, Shilajit has been used by people living in the Himalayan regions for thousands of years. As you've probably heard, it garnered some serious nicknames over the centuries such as "The Blood of the Mountain" and "The Destroyer of Weakness".
As is the case with essentially all eastern medicine and supplements, it has been largely ignored by western scientific review until relatively recently, but researchers are slowly beginning to understand why the supplement has been seen as so powerful for so long.
It's rich in nutrients such as mineral salts, amino acids, humic and fuvic acids, and dozens of trace minerals.
Natural Testosterone Booster
Testosterone has a massive array of effects on mens' health. It's responsible for increasing muscle mass and lowering body fat. It's helpful for bone density, heart health, and blood health. Its closely tied to libido and sexual health and performance. There’s also evidence for a strong correlation between testosterone and mental abilities such as verbal memory and processing speed. Long story short, if you're trying to be your best self, its something you want.
A 2016 clinical trial published by Pandit, S et al., found that treatment with Shilajit significantly increased both total testosterone and free testosterone, with total testosterone increasing by an average of over 20% throughout the course of their study.
Cognitive Health
Although research is still ongoing, results such as those found by Andrade, Víctor et al. (2023), point to Shilajit's potential as neuroprotective agent.
The fulvic acid found in Shilajit is a powerful antioxidant which helps to prevent the build up of harmful proteins in the brain. A 2012 animal study by Surapaneni et al. illustrates Shilajit's promise as a treatment for chronic fatigue through its positive effects on mitochondrial function, thereby increasing energy levels.
